FLA (Fair Labor Association) Standards:
The FLA is a multi-stakeholder initiative that includes companies, universities, and civil society organizations. Its mission is to protect workers' rights and improve working conditions in global supply chains. Key FLA standards include:
No Forced Labor – Workers must not be subject to forced or compulsory labor.
Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining – Workers should have the right to form and join unions.
Non-Discrimination – No worker should face discrimination in hiring, wages, or treatment.
No Child Labor – Workers must meet the minimum age requirement (based on international or local law).
Fair Wages and Benefits – Workers must receive fair wages that meet legal and industry standards.
Working Hours and Overtime – Working hours must comply with national laws, and overtime must be voluntary and fairly compensated.
Health and Safety – Companies must ensure safe and healthy working conditions.
Accountability and Transparency – Companies are expected to engage in independent assessments and report compliance publicly.
WRC (Worker Rights Consortium) Standards:
The WRC is an independent labor rights monitoring organization, often supported by universities. It focuses primarily on investigating and addressing labor violations in factories that manufacture goods for universities. Its standards align with international labor conventions, including:
Living Wages – Workers should earn wages sufficient to meet their basic needs and those of their families.
Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining – Workers must have the freedom to organize and bargain collectively.
Safe Working Conditions – Employers are required to maintain a safe working environment and comply with local and international health standards.
No Forced or Child Labor – Workers must not be subjected to forced labor, slavery, or exploitative child labor.
No Harassment or Abuse – Workers must be treated with dignity and respect, free from physical or verbal abuse.
Non-Discrimination – All workers should have equal treatment regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or other personal characteristics.
